I think you can have faith and believe in something that isn't the dogmatic religious standard...but that's not the same thing as being agnostic.

It isn't right or wrong to be that way - learning and seeking answers and developing a point of view are all valid and valuable pursuits - just saying that when it comes to faith and belief in a "God" (whatever that may be to you) there is no final answer where grey is applicable.
I quite like agnostics. Indeed I really think all those without a faith should be one. It doesn't really change your lifestyle, but it might provoke thoughts every now and then. The questioning of the world around us is a really useful thing. Different perspectives could open new and fantastic thoughts. Too be completely dismissive when no-one really knows is just ignorant, isn't it?

The problem is with someone with faith - any thought that calls into question the validity of their faith cannot be allowed, and the only response they can offer is the fact that they believe.
And I'm not saying that it is wrong to believe in a higher being but not be positive what that being is. But you either believe in a higher being, or you don't. If you want to believe in some sort of Universal Power (call it astrology or "fate" or some other kind of non-specific reasoning) that isn't faith. Only by broadening the definition of faith to the point were it really ceases to mean anything can that kind of belief system be equated to the kind of adherence to a specific fact - that there is a god.

I'm sorta pretty relaxed about this. So long as there isn't direct confrontation I don't see atheists as a problem. Whilst I got the thought from school I believe that knowing why you don't have a faith is just as important as knowing why you do.
So the main problem are those that just dismiss without a thought to why. If I asked them why they are atheist they'd only shrug their shoulders and say 'I don't know.' Surely they're better off agnostic?
