If you're gonna change yourself, why wait for a random day in January, when you could change when you initially made the decision? New Years is just an excuse to stay up late, drink heavily, and potentially kiss the hopefully attractive potential sexual partner you've spent most of the night buying drinks for.

I would work tomorrow, but I cannot since its a holiday, so I'm forced to use paid time off, which means I can't take off a day that I really want/need to (like when the hypothetical children get the hypothetical stomach flu).

2009 was such a weird year, lots of ups and downs, but there seemed to have been way more significant "downs" than usual so BRING ON THE NEW YEAR!
plus i turn 21 in 2010 so that automatically makes it a more tolerable year!

2009 resolution- get my ass back into school and get the hell out of texas... possibly go to a whole new continent altogether

7/4/1776: one day... turned the US into a country

12/7/1941: one day... turned the US into the righteous heroes of the world

8/6/1945: one day... everyone in the world realized that the US could destroy an entire city if it wanted to

9/11/2001: one day... turned the US from a pretty awesome country, to a country full of racial profiling fearmongers.

11/4/2008: one day... the US hired a half black islamist from kenya to run the country (that was sarcasm)

So I disagree. One day can change a person alot.

So I disagree. One day can change a person alot.

But people, in all those cases, worked many days ahead of time to make the "one day" happen. There is no event without the work. The majority of America looks at January 1 as a time to turn over the new leaf, to get fit, to quit drugs, to start a hobby. But why wait? One day CAN change a person, but why January 1? Do it when it needs to be done.

This is also why I am very hard to shop for for Christmas. I buy things when I need them.

Its one of the company's holidays - which means, as "office worker," I'm not allowed to work. I am also required to meet my full time equivelency of 80 hours in the pay period. To do this, I have to use paid time off out of my paid time off bank. This accumulates at a more or less fixed rate, and so I cannot use the time I used today to cover a different day off.

On the other hand, I watched Dr. Who today, followed by picture frame making, followed by Torchwood, followed by Dr. Who, with a brief bit of sadness as I realized that I didn't want to make the meal I was planning because I was only cooking for one. I attempted to invite a friend down, but he declined, since he's an hour or so away. Then I drank, because I was bored.

If only I was able to work today....would have actually been productive Thursday, been useful today, wouldn't have had to use my PTO, could have eaten healthier, and wouldn't have drank.

When I worked for the government, they just paid me without using any of my accumulated time off, but no such luck in the non-profit healthcare sector.

That Sucks. Does July 4th also count as one of those days? All bank Holidays and such are automaticly covered and don't use any of your excuse to get drunk allowance, that's how it works here.
