Kora asked me to make her some 8x10" picture frames for some postcards she wanted to hang on the wall.

Cherry wood, with cherry stain. The design is something I came up with that actually turned out quite well. I have two more of the same style downstairs with glue drying of oak and walnut - they're not finished yet. I'll probably stain the oak one the same color, I have no idea how I'll stain the walnut.

I like the detailing. GIves it a bit of an "arts and craft" feel. as in the furniture style, not 3rd grade.

I have a couple picture frames downstairs I just stained tonight...otherwise I'm making bedside tables to match my headboard. At three hours a night, its taking a while.

Does your girlfriend hate it when you get so worked up, you squirt your wood glue everywhere?

Designing and building are two different things. In the course of building, my designs usually change.

Lougan: thats pushing the acceptable level of innuendo.

I just finished some bedside tables to go with my headboard, the ones I was using were from a garage sale and left in my house when I purchased it respectively. The new tables match, I designed them myself (with a little change in design over time) and were finished in April 2010. They're made out of red oak, with african padauk as an inlay.

Next up is a secret project that has already begun (interspersed with picture frames - they're easy to make at this point and rather uninteresting, but I keep finding more flipping pictures), then a dining room table.

I'm sure that you've all been waiting eagerly to find out about my secret project. Here it is:

Attached File  DSCF0223.JPG   322.41K   0 downloads Attached File  DSCF0239.JPG   342.15K   0 downloads

I found this design on a woodworking blog I frequent, and liked it a lot. I made a few improvements, gave it my touch, and gave one to the girlfriend for the one year anniversary next week. I gave it to her about 2 weeks early, but she stayed here all last week and they were done. I didn't see a reason to put it off.

The dark one is for me, a black walnut frame and cherry panel. The light one is hers, made from cherry frame and maple panel. Both are lined with western red cedar. They smell REALLY good.

She has gigantic bags full of yarn, I thought she could keep her knitting supplies in it. I put a tray in hers to hold knitting needles and whatnot. She was thrilled, I think I done good.
