I'll probably end up working on stuff after Kora leaves, in an attempt to keep busy in the aftermath.

This is the other project I've been working on. I got the idea from thinkgeek.com, where they put walnut and maple together to make a cutting board with a pattern in it. While I was waiting the few days for the picture frame finish to cure, I started cutting pieces for this...then realized that if I changed where the bars on the saws were, when I went to make more blocks it would have a seriously negative effect. Even when I didn't change it, pieces still came out different sizes. I haven't glued it yet, and am fairly satisfied for my skillset - learned a few things to do before I start the next ones, like check the saw sharpness - apparently my father doesn't believe in changing the blade until it doesn't cut at all anymore. Needless to say, I bought a new blade, but then realized that if I change that, I change the measurement.

Cutting board, first attempt, cherry and walnut stock. You can see samples of the pieces I cut below, along with a bit of the pattern I was following.

The good news is that last night I glued up the board.

The bad news is that I glued the pieces to the jig.

The good news is that a 16 oz hammer, with enough force can break the glue. And everything else. At least it didn't SEEM like much force...
