So. Here we are. 8 years later. Afghanistan is still shitty. Most of our countries are stuck in it.

Should we stick it out and actually win?

No foreign country has ever been able to achieve victory there... Should we just cut our losses and run? or just let a fucked up country continue to be fucked up (and thus launch attacks that fuck us up in the end)?

We have to stick it out. We sorta abandoned it for Iraq.
Any progress was instantly lost as the remaining troops were pushed back down the list.

Eh? You abandoned us. Over 500 of our troops have been killed in Helmand province since 2001. June was a really bad month for us.

Abandoned you? We're adding 17,000 more troops at the moment, and possible tens of thousands more...
We're doing the best we can!

All the countries are doing their best. It seams we are in the worst province.
All we hear is soldiers dying.
The war in afganistan started well, then Iraq turned up and nothing was heard from Afganistan, now it's daily news.

Thats because Afghanistan was mostly ignored because our President was an idiot. He was too busy trying to clean up his mess than clean up the mess that we were thrust into.

Iraq, definitely. Afghanistan was supposed to be a hunt for those responsible for 9/11 and the British subway bombings (ie Taliban and Al Quaeda). We were directly attacked, so yeah, i think that is at least justified there.

Im sure that the time Russia spent in afghanistahn didnt help its economy at all.

and im super sure america wasnt looking for some sort of economic boost.

and im REALLY sure there isnt now some sort of 'wheres the money? i dont know, shall we invade another country in the middle east?' policy.

I like the idea there is one Georgian guy just wondering what the hell hes supposed to be doing. no infrastructure, nothing, just him and a gun.

I would like to make a film in which he finds osama bin laden.

these are my thoughts on Afghanistahn.

Isnt this the same stuff you guys were saying about Iraq like what? 4 or 5 years ago? The place is a lot better now. If we let our military forces do their job and actually give them what they need they'll get the job done.

COIN environments arent settled overnight. This isnt MW2.

It should be Modern Warfare 2.... at least we understand how to kill zombie Nazis
"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children, to earn the approbation of honest critics; to appreciate beauty; to give of one's self, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived--that is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Yeah, I wish it was MW2 too. It would make stuff alot easier and not have lost so many friends.
