Signs of After-life?

I have a friend, his name is Bryan McQueen and he lives in Michigan. He was very close to my Dads long-time friend and business partner, (Bryan's uncle) Ben. Ben and his family have known me since I was a wee-little-person and moved down to VA with his family, joining my family, about 15 years ago - so, Ben is very much like an "uncle/father" figure to me, as I see him very often; his wife like an "aunt/mother" and his son, Caleb is very much so like a "brother" type. We're all close. Anyways, that being said, Bryan came down to VA frequently to visit and we would spend time together - he eventually grew close to my parents too...well, because my parents are awesome too. I had a lot of things in common with Bryan - we were both in the Navy, we both loved cars (old and new, it's a Michigan thing), we both liked to party and have a good time, etc. Bryan was very well liked by everyone who met him - he was just that kind of personable/social type; always joking around and could put a smile on anyone's face, regardless of how serious the situation was.

Two Saturdays ago, Bryan died in a motorcycle accident; he was 27 years old. He was on his new BMW motorcycle and was coming off the interstate going 131 MPH at the time of his collision with a highway sign. He died instantly. Needless to say, this was a big loss for everyone, and still now - typing this after I thought my mourning was over with, I'm getting a little emotional thinking of him and how this could happen; it's still a shock. He left behind his very large and endearing family, great friends, and a very loving girlfriend. There was no question that Bryan tended to ride the line of life and death - let's just say, he took risks.

Well, I told you all that, to tell you this.
Ben, his wife Terri and his son Caleb went to Michigan for the funeral last week. I was in NYC for a wedding when I got the news from a phone call from my Mom & Dad, so we didn't attend, but all sent the family our love and sympathies. Ben returned from Michigan to work (with my parents, business partners and such..) and told my Mom about the trip. Bryan had a full miliarty funeral with the 21 gun salute, over 500 people attended, and was proceeded with everyone in his "motorcycle" club - 75 motorcycles with American flags on the back of their bikes. He told her that he noticed some things during his trip up north that seemed to be a bit unusual. Please note that Ben is not a "spiritual" man, by any means. I'm sure he has beliefs, but religion is never a topic he'll bring up.

During his driving trip, he noticed that a good majority of the way, there were 2 BMW motorcycles driving beside him. A little later on the highway, a truck with a flat trailer on the back with a vintage BMW motorcycle merged in front of him. Later, there was another car with a US Navy lisence plate frame and the letters "BTM-2238" - "BTM" are Bryan's initials...and he was in the Navy. During their stay in Michigan they went to their local Meijers (like Wal-Mart) and the cashier that checked them out had a nametag that read "Bryan M".

Does that give you chills? Because I did. I've never heard of anything like this.

Yesterday, at work...I took a call from a long-time client of mine in NY, he was a new contact person and wanted to introduce himself. When I went to add his contact info to our database, he told me his name was "Bryan McKinnick". I paused ...I had to ask "Excuse me, this is a random question...but what's your middle name?" Bryan responded, "Trae. Why do you ask?". All I could tell him was that I "knew a lot of Bryan's" and I chuckled it off...but I was really just drawing a big blank, fumbled with confusion.

I'm still a little disturbed in a really curious and calming kind-of-way. If that makes sense...

this is just lougan looking at it from a scientific point of view, so please dont take offence.

People tend to notice things that stick out in their head. For instance, when you buy a new car, you tend to notice more cars like yours on the road. When I got sexy car (my mazda 3) i didnt think many people had them. Then right after that, i noticed there were 3 in my apartment parking lot. Maren's mom is a good example as well. She has a Mazda Tribute, she got in a wreck last weekend, and its in the shop. Lately she's been seeing Tributes everywhere.

Its really a pyschological thing, we make associations, and we start to notice the background noise. There are studies about such things. I forgot exactly what its called.

Maybe it is human nature... I dunno. But as far as afterlifes go, that isnt something that can be explained by science. (And I do believe in such things).

yeah, you could be right about that. i said something along those lines when I heard what Ben had "noticed", but then the next day...the whole Client thing and his name...I was like "!!!!" woah. freaky stuff.

who knows. it seems all really coinciedental. i dunno though.
i don't like questioning my beliefs, because it's a little deeper than i'd like to go - but it's definately where i'm at right now.

thanks smile.gif

shrug

though i would like to believe it's some form of message from the afterlife, i agree with lougan

the former is just too romantic.

i'm with sarah..
i haven't had any personal experiences with loved ones that have passed.

But i hear stories like it... chill bumps hit me regardless of knowing/believing..

my personal experience was a bit influenced, but i don't doubt that my brain had just been opened up to something i've never been able to grasp before.

Not saying that Loug's scientific explanation isn't completely valid, but the line between just noticing more and random "coincidence" is thin... it's a hard point to define, but i believe less in things just randomly happening... more in things happen that way for a reason, it's up to us to notice the small details. Some people are too wrapped up in other things to pay attention.

i kinda went off topic a bit... i think... but yeah

I definitely believe in an afterlife and the possibility of making it back from that plane of existence.

well in 9th grade my friend ashley and i were playing with her mom's ouija board alone at her house one afternoon. we started off asking bullshit questions like what is on channel 9 and what will i be when i grow up. then we started asking it who it was and it spelled out the name Ted. my friend ashley had no way of knowing that my dead grandfather's name was Ted. i immediatly got scared. i asked if it was my grandpa and it spelled out yes and it spelled out rage and i hate you. i dont know why my grandfather would do that other than that he is a demon. i got mad and started cursing the board and the last thing it spelled out was just wait. we put the board up, thoroughly freaked already, and start to watch t.v.. not five minutes pass and a huge storm comes up and knocks the power out of her house. we are sitting on the couch freaking out when the lights come back on. after a few minutes ashley noticed that her dad's shotgun that usually sat in the corner was missing. we started to look for it and ended up int he basement to find it on the washing machine.

here is the kicker- my grandfather killed himself when i was younger in the basement at the washing machine

ive also "talked" to my dad through an ouija board. he has told me that Ted is a demon and that he is trying to protect me from him. my dad asked me how emily was and how my mom was and he said I love you. i asked him if God was real and he said do you believe? i asked him what iw as going to be when i grew up and he said it's a suprise. he also told me to look in the table beside a bed. i figured out he was talking about my mom and his bed in her room. i went in there one day and looked in the bedside table on my dad's side and found a book of pictures that i had forgotten about. they were pictures htat emily and i drew while he was sick in the hospital.

Before I get started on the main point of the thread, I want to just say. (Please don't get angry over this.) many offroads to motorways and I guess highways are curved. He may have took the bend too fast and 130 mph is too fast or was trying to overtake another car. He lucked out here and a bit of caution would have saved him, but as you said he took risks...

What is an ouiji board?
I believe that some form of messaging can reach you from the other side, but maybe not direct communication.
He was probably saying goodbye in his own way.

didn't i say this? i mean, if i didn't clarify - i already know that he took the turn too fast. hellooooo, 130 mph is fucking fast to take on a merge off the highway that says the speed limit is 45. i can't imagine any merge off a highway is more than 45 mph; they're usually lower from my experience. yes, he did take risks. he was an idiot for going that fast. the statement you made is beside the point of this thread. but thanks?

Not to bust on ghosts (I'm a religious watcher of Ghost Hunters on SciFi Channel) but based on the fuzzy quality of the fence in that picture I'm guessing the photo was a double exposure, which would give the dog the translucent quality.

People hold onto something that you can see through (I don't know what it's called, but it's got a hole in the middle. Makeshift boards might use a shotglass), and, supposedly, the ghost moves the... thing around the board to spell out words. Most people think it's a little sleepover game (like "light as a feather, stiff as a board"), and some think it creates a direct connection to THE DEVIL.

Well i believe there is something beyond this life, as in that contacting us or vise versa, im skeptical. I think much of it does have to do with personal experience.
