I believe in a higher power, somewhere, but I don't believe that a single entity created us. I have many reasons as to why I don't believe in any religion on earth, mainly because all religions believe that theirs is the only one that is right. Religion is a man made ideal. Something that was created before science, before we had answers to such general questions as how do we clean our teeth, how do we function as a society, how do we improve our vision once our eyes get tired... it was created by man, for man, in an effort to believe that we are not alone. It's tough for humans to grasp the fact that our lives mean virtually nothing, and that after death, there may actually be absolutely nothing. I'm not going to go out and say that there IS NOT a god, because I don't know, but I won't put my money on it.
I don't understand how one religion can say that if you do not practice our religion, you go to hell. What about the billion people on the planet who have never even been introduced to your religion? Do they go to hell, too? They did not even have a chance. It's not fair, and I cannot believe that there would be a god that didn't understand fairness.
Everyone has the right to their opinion, so I'm gonna say it here and now, if you are offended by something in this thread, close the window and don't respond. Discuss, don't fight.

My class approaches this in a different way, and I think its really neat. It starts with the basic principle that every being has the conditions for its existance either in itself or in another. The thing is, everything we experience right now is caused by something else. We do not have the conditions for our existance in ourselves, but instead our parents. Everything we know is conditioned on somethign else, leaving us with Infinate Regress, where all parts of the chain would be conditioned on something else. A chain like this leaves the conditions unsatisfied, which contradicts the existance of any being's existance.
What that boils down to is the neccesity for at least one unconditional being that has the coinditions for its existance in itself. This being, further down in the argument, is what we call God.
sorry. If anyone wants to hear more about this, let me know. otherwise, i'm just rambling.
The poster also makes no commitment to give a shit about your opinions or feelings. Suck it up or get off the net.

Anyway, as I've said before, agnostic. I'm way too much of a skeptic, really. There's way too many potential options for what might be, and I've yet to see anything that would cancel anything out.

My analogy: You tell me about your wife, and about how she is a wonderful person. I, not having met your wife, do not have any sort of personal relationship with her, and I can't with certainty tell you if she even exists. However, that does NOT mean that I will belittle your love for her, or even doubt it. But if you deny individual rights or retard the progress of science based on the fact that some other guy told you your wife doesn't approve, that's when we have problems.
but here i dreamt i was an architect
and i built this balustrade
to keep you home, to keep you safe
from the outside world
but the angles and the corners
even though my work is unparalelled
they never seemed to meet
this structure fell about our feet
and we were free to go

One can not prove that there is not a God, scientifically.
Is there a God? Possibly. Probably? Thats for you to decide.

we'll put all of the people in the world into two groups - ones who believe in God, and ones who don't.
now there are two possible outcomes in this scenario - there either is a God, or there isn't.
now the people who believe in God are good either way - if there is a God, then they will go to heaven. if there isn't, then they were just good people in their life.
but the people who don't believe in God have a 50/50 chance of being okay. if there is a God, then they will suffer the consequences. if not, then they're off scot free.
this doesn't quite justify my beliefs, i'm just putting it out there. i believe in God pretty fully - of course i still question His existence and many other things about my faith. but if you can't question your beliefs, then they will never grow.
i'll post more about this topic later when i have more time. religion and politics are my two fave things to talk about.
i'm wanting this to be
a super natural flood of life
and not just make believe

a couple scientists in england got together a few years ago and came up with the odds of some primal ooze suddenly springing forth life. they said that it is more likely that a single person would win EVERY SINGLE LOTTERY IN HIS/HER LIFETIME, but nnot by buying a ticket, BY FINDING EACH AND EVERY WINNING TICKET ON THE GROUND. believe in a higher power now bitch?
