okay i have the recovery disk at home and i really want to reformat my laptop cuz well a lot of shit has happened. i know that i have to burn some backup disk but... what do i put in it? if i reformat my laptop do i have to reinstall all those AMD and stuff that came with it or what?
i have no idea what i'm doing. thanks guys,

copy anything that you don't have a disk for or don't know where to find on the net.

You've gotta come to terms with the fact that you're only going to remember about 75% of everything you want to keep, no matter how much you try to remember everything. Just do as Ashe said, burn everything you can think of to CDs or copy to a storage space, and then format. The recovery disk should take care of the rest, but you might be better off installing straight from an OEM operating system disc and upgrading from there... depends on how comfortable with computers you are.

laptops are tricky, you should be able ust ot install from the disk...don't worry about system files, just things you don't want to lose like schoolwork and shit like that.
if you have an actual Windows disk (as opposed to a disc that had "Gateway Recovery Disk" or something) then install from that (saves from some extra crap being put on the machine)

I rarely throw things away. As a result, I have to buy a lot of hard drives. About one a year, as a matter of fact.
